Can you repost the breadmaking step by step that was on
your old website. All the recipes also. I was going to
print before your old site was closed. Thank you.
I am going to move the pictures over this weekend!!
I just wanted to say that I do love your website! I check it daily for new information and inspiration! Thank you!
Greetings…just found your site and love it. We are trying to attain a greater level of self sufficiency as well. We raise our own meat (pork and lamb) and/or hunt for our meat (deer, elk), we have chickens, dairy goats (darling nubians), and a large garden. We also are the ones that the neighbors always say, “come and get it” to when they have an over abundance in their own garden…because they know that we will put it to good use. We render the lard from our pigs for culinary use and I have rendered lamb tallow that I am hoping to mix with wax to make into candles for our winter lighting. I sew many of our clothes and we eat very little processed foods…I bake our bread and make our cheeses. It is a wonderful lifestyle…and I wouldn’t trade a minute of it for anything else… Just wanted to say, “hi” and I can’t wait to keep an eye on what is happening on Shepherd’s Hill.
Fellow steward of God,
Wow! I must say that I have found great joy in looking through your website. What a great inspiration you all are! I am just entering the world of plain, and am finding it a challenge, though I know I am being called to it, I was not born into it. Lucky for my daughters they will know what it means to serve God completly from a young age. I am looking for cheap , free , very inexpensive , all of the above (lol) patterns for making dresses. I am going to try out your headcovering pattern tommorow, and would love to try an outfit as well. I have been called to cover but have only being using scarves up till this point as I wasnt able to figure out how to make them. Thank you! I am going to be a daily visitor to your site!
In His Light
I really enjoyed reading the Powergrams article. I certianly respect your decision for a simple lifestyle. Reminds me of the way I was brought up on a farm in the 50′s and 60′s. We did everything except blacksmith and weave. Life was simple and good.
Thanks for your friendship while I was an active Apco employee.
Great to hear from you Dalbert! It has been a while. I appreciate the kind comments. We were very pleased with the article. It has given us a lot of opportunity to share our faith. Hope to see you again soon!
I see that you have “guests” or “members” listed with how many are online. Where do you go on the website to become a member?
We don’t really have any members at this time, it is just the phrasing that is used on that information. Thanks for the interest in becoming a member and if we do decide to set up some other kind of forum or program we will let you know!!
Well, do you have an email list for anything you add as new? Any postings, products, etc?
I like your website.
Also, do people visit your farm? If so, where is it? I live in Central Ala, north of Montgomery.
Read your article in the Gadsden Times and just had to visit your website. This is wonderful ! I would like to order your lip and hand balm. Will call my grand daughter today and ask her to look you up. She works in the Anniston office and her name is Jeri Leigh Prince. I am an ole fashion cook and enjoyed your wifes recipes. Thank you for making my day !
Just read an article featuring Shepherd’s Hill Homestead in the Mobile Press Register and had to visit your website. I greatly admire the lifestyle you have chosen. Definitely enjoyed reading the articles you share. Plan to visit the site regularly for inspiration. Blessings to you and yours.
Thanks so much Liz!! We truly appreciate you letting us know -such an encouragement! I just got the subscribe option on the site so you might want to click that and it will let you know when we update.
I’ve just read an article in the Jan. 3rd Mobile Press-Register that led me to your website. You’ve made 2012 start with great inspiration for me. Thank you.
Praise the Lord! Such a joy to know that the Lord is blessing others through our site. Thanks for letting us know, John – it really means a lot!
P.S. – We didn’t know this was in the Mobile paper! My family lived in Mobile for a few years when I was a little girl and I can remember cobblestone streets and Bellingrath Gardens.
Hope to get back there one day and see both again.
Hello, My husband an I are from the Lineville area, and we would love to come by and talk to you, but not sure where you are located or if its ok…we are very interested in your Homesteader’s Weekend also my mother may come from Amarillo, Tx. to it also. We are really excited about meeting you. God bless, Dodi Griffin
Hi Dodi – How nice to meet new neighbors! We are in the Mellow Valley/Gibsonville area. Usually Saturday is the best time to come visit. I will check with Paul about what we have planned for this coming weekend. Perhaps you can visit then. I will get back with you.
Thank you for the response, We really are excited to meet you, this Sat. we have our daughters 18th birthday party so we will not be able to come this weekend, we may could the next Sat., just let me know and we will figure it out. Thank you.
Do yall make baskets that you sell. I would like to buy a large wicker basket to put house plants in .
Yes Gregg – I make many different kinds of baskets. If you can tell me the dimensions you need I can make you whatever you need. I will try to post some photos on the site this evening.
I love the way u do things and the way u live.Do u allow people to come and visit yall?
Read an article in the Mobile paper today and then came to your website. It has been a joy just reading all your information on the animals especially the chickens. Our grandson has just received a little pot bellied pig for Christmas and her name is Barbie Q. It was neat to see that your ham came from a Barbie Q. Thank you for sharing all the great recipes. Would love to visit – where are the nearest rooms, in the event I can get a group of 6-8 together? Thanks.
1/3/2012.. Just read about your farm and lifestyle in the ms coast Sun Herald and found it very interesting. I read ever Amish book I can find and seems like your life is similar. I would love to come to the homestead weekend and will be watching for more info. I love your web site and have subscribed. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks
I need you to pray for my friend Donna Ray, She has Overian Cancer,
shes having test tomorrow. Please pray that God will bless her with
good news. I read your artical in our local paper, The Cullman Times.
I enjoyed it so much. Thank You so much. God Bless you always.
Praying for Donna right now, Kattie! God knows all about her need and has the exact answer she needs! Big hugs!
I just got time to check my emails !! With these new foster boys ,4 brothers I hardly have time to check on anything !! Please keep us in your prayers .Our “Country Cabin Homestead” is full of busy bodies. We have a full house ,8 of us everynight for Supper and fellowship. This has been a challenging journey take on 4 boys ages 3 to 10 all at once . But as we strive to do God’s will ,we know we are on the right path .God has answered our prayers of wanting a full house of children to love and care for .We love you all and miss you !!
Good to hear from you! We have been praying for all God’s blessings on you and those precious boys. You have taken on quite a task but the Lord has His Hand on you and is there to guide you guys each and every step. Big hugs!!!!
I’ve been following your web site for close to a year now. It is a true blessing to know that there are people who are willing to follow God no matter what. I ask you to pray for my family as we are at the beginning stages of living a “peculiar” (1 Peter 2:9) life. I praise God for you!!
hey you’ll did an awsome job on the website enjoyed reading all the different things on your site, keep living for the Lord, God bless you
Thank you so much for your wonderful website! I have been on my plain walk for almost two years now and just recently began wearing my cover since Thanksgiving 2011. It’s wonderful to read and see about others walking the plain Christian path.
I seem to be the only one in my area and would love to find others nearby or a community to become a part of.
Were there others living the plain life in your area when you decided to take that walk?
Blessings to you!
Just wondering if you have any candles for sale at this time? I’ve been reading your post on how to make candles, and am very interested in starting this as a hobby for myself! Thanks
So sorry but we are sold out of candles at this time. When we have more we will add the info to our website.
I am so greatful to have found your site! I am getting a late start at this plain living way of life so I appreciate all that you provide in information and support! My husband and I live in partially rural alaska and he is at work all day and I am home with plenty of time on my hands to dive right into things…Now all I need is the physical anergy and stamina to follow through! I want to become as self-sufficient as possible and you make things such as keeping chickens, makiing soap etc seem actually “doable” (is that even a word?)and not scary to try. Thank you for your site!
Hi Karen Anne – It IS DOable!! I am excited for you and trust that the Lord is going to lead, guide and direct your family as you seek His Will!!
Keep in touch and let us know how things are progressing. We will be keeping you in our prayers.
I belong to a group of ladies over the internet who cover and who are Christians. Some of them also want to wear plain dress that is modest. Most of us don’t have the money for those expensive patterns. I posted your apron and headcover pattern. I wondered if you could please get your plain dress pattern back up. We would all be very thankful. God bless
Hi Amy – so glad the headcovering and apron patterns are working so well for you. I do not have plans to put the plain dress page back on at this time, but that may happen in the future. I don’t know if you have a Hobby Lobby nearby but they periodically have a 99¢ sale on their patterns. You can get a fairly plain dress pattern in their costume section – pilgrim/pioneer type patterns usually work fine.
Glad I found your website.
My husband and I currently have our house for sale and are looking for a house with a few acres so we can start living more self sufficiently.
Thanks for sharing your life so the rest of us can learn!
I will be praying for the perfect place from the Lord!
This site has been so full of information I have been searching for, for some time, thank you. I am excited to let my daughter, Angela know of your site, since she has so many questions about head coverings and other subjects about what is right for her to be doing. She has been looking for support from others besides just me in doing what she believes the Lord wants her to do. She also likes doing things more basic and with nature as I prefer and your site is great.
thank you for your site, there is much I want to learn that you have put on it already, I don’t look at my e-mail much, but I can follow you on facebook.
