God’s Plan for a Happy Home-Part V

Up until now we’ve examined the relationship of husbands and wives in the structure of the home. I would now like to examine scriptures regarding the children in the family. It is important for them to understand that their actions can cause strife in a home or can bring peace. Some people may be surprised to find out that God gives children rules to follow since younger children may not be old enough to understand. If they are too young to grasp the Bible it is the parent’s responsibility to train them so that they can understand. Let’s look at training children first and see what God says. While some families may not be able to have children having them completes God’s perfect order. When God created the woman for Adam … Read entire article »

God’s Plan for a Happy Home-Part IV

This week I will continue covering passages that deal with the husbands. Last week I went through Ephesians chapter five which explains that the man stands in the role of Christ in His relationship to the Church. The wife stands in the role of the Church in her relationship to Christ. Since God has declared that the man is head of the home it is important that we understand what He has called us to do. As I was going through the passages for last week’s message I came across 1st Peter 3:7. While it is just one verse I kept it for this week so that we could break it down. Let’s see if we can find the depth it was written in. As I often say we skim … Read entire article »

God’s Plan for a Happy Home-Part III

This is a continuation of a series I am doing on the family. I am going to give my standard disclaimer as I did on the other two parts before I begin. It does not matter if you believe the Bible or not or if you choose to ignore its teachings. You were created by Jehovah God and the institution of marriage was ordained by Him as one man and one woman. You will never find happiness in a relationship that does not go along with what He has established. While you may find temporary enjoyment in what you are doing it is only that-temporary. Ignoring the master plan from the Master Builder will lead to disaster. Following God’s Word will prove itself out to be truth. It has for … Read entire article »

God’s Plan for a Happy Home-Part II

Last week I looked at some very foundational things for the family. The families are under attack today like never before. People of God need to know what the Word says about our role in families, what we should do and what we should not do. I mentioned in part one that it was difficult to find a properly functioning home in the Word of God. Even in the best families recorded in the Bible we see problems and mistakes. This should be a comfort to you that there is hope for your family. I made a disclaimer last week that I will repeat this week. I am covering what God says is His best for the family He ordained. Just because you do not agree with it or think … Read entire article »

God’s Plan for a Happy Home—Part One

I was asked recently to talk about the home and family. The world is quickly trying to redefine the word “family” to be any two or more people living together. God ordained it thousands of years ago as one man and one woman producing Godly offspring.  Our world is desperately in need of reformation for the family. The survival of mankind is dependant on a properly functioning home unit. When homes are out of order it causes society to be out of order. Let me make one disclaimer before I begin. There will be many who scoff at what I’m going to share. My disclaimer is this: I am speaking from the perspective as a Christian who believes that God Almighty created us in His image and that He did it … Read entire article »

The Significance of a Swimming Axe

There are many miracles in the Bible that seem odd to us. Some of the things that God has recorded in His Word are mysterious. We often read right through an account and just pass it off as strange. The truth is that everything God has kept documented for the past six thousand years really is relevant. If it’s in there it means something! The story I want to look at today is just such an event. The account is only seven verses long and is unlike any other miracle in the Bible. It happened long ago during a construction project involving Elisha and a group of students. The Prophet Elijah was the head of a large number of prophets in training known as the School of the Prophets. Elisha was … Read entire article »

Gratitude

It’s refreshing to see gratitude offered these days. At one time people were grateful for the smallest things. When I was younger people had much less than they do now and each thing was received with thanks. We didn’t think the world owed us anything back then. The first car I ever drove to school had no grill and no hood. If it rained I had to find a gas station with an awning to pull under. Yet, I was so proud to have it! Not many of the kids back then drove nice automobiles. Now, if you pass by a high-school parking lot you will see vehicles driven by students that most of us still can’t afford. It seems that people are not only ungrateful but they also expect … Read entire article »

Anytime, Anyplace

I have heard some say that there are no death-bed conversions and that if we don’t come to God and repent while we still have time to work for Him then we really aren’t repentant. I disagree. Looking at the Word we will see many examples of those who delayed their repentance, even though they did suffer because of it. Today I want to examine the character of God in which men have mercy and grace. In the book of Judges is the story of a man named Samson who went his own way. Beginning in chapter 13 is the miraculous event of an angel who foretells Samson’s birth. We all have a special place in this world and a call from God (if we will answer it) but in … Read entire article »

Only One

Would I lie to you if I loved you? Of course not! If we love someone we owe it to them to be absolutely honest. God has commanded us to love one another and to even love our enemies so I’m going to be completely truthful with you today. There is no way to get to heaven except through Jesus Christ. I know that offends some people as there is a belief that as long as you are sincere God will accept you. The Bible doesn’t say that. Some other religions may also teach that you can get to heaven through your religion or theirs. These are all inclusive but Christianity is not. Before I get into the scriptural passages that show this let me say that there is an … Read entire article »

Judge Not

I read the statement “judge not” this week, not in my daily Bible reading but in a conversation on Facebook. Someone posted the question “What exactly constitutes judging someone and is it judging to simply quote scripture?” The answers that came surprised me a lot. Many sounded like even asking that question was judgmental. Others were less militant about it but it did remind me that the world hates it when sin is exposed. No one likes to have their sins pointed out. This fact proves one thing to me-men do not equate sin with the destruction and death that Father God does. They simply want to do what their flesh desires without anyone questioning it. The passage that everyone seems to know is Matthew 7:1. If you ask them they don’t … Read entire article »

Quit Ye Like Men

If you look back on the history of man, you will see the rise and fall of nations, and people. There has not been a seventy-five year period (about a lifespan) of peace and plenty in the history of the United States. In other words, every citizen of this country has experienced war, plagues, famines, droughts, and economic recession and depression. Some had it better than others, yes, but in the complete history of our country we have never had a generation of complete peace and harmony. Our country is young compared to most others in the world. They also have gone through a continual cycle of the above troubles. What is my point? I want to establish that mankind has always had woes and always will until the end when … Read entire article »

Big Gains, Big Losses

This week someone posted an article on Facebook that got me thinking. It was about the modern church and the way that it brought droves of young people in but after college age they left and didn’t return. The statistics showed that there were one fourth of the people of the college age attending church as were their grand-parents. Also, it showed that eighty percent of youth that had attended church as youth never came back as adults. I didn’t have to ask why. I was once a youth pastor who followed the standard patterns of the modern church. In fact, I am old enough now to look back and see the fruit, or lack thereof in all of my efforts. We as Christians have fallen into the same trap as … Read entire article »

Right or Left?

As a young man I often envied the men of the Old Testament for several reasons. First, they seemed to always have visual miracles right in front of them and actually saw the supernatural hand of God at work. He parted a sea in front of them and they walked over on dry land. He led them through the wilderness with a pillar of fire and a cloud. And he opened up the ground and swallowed up their enemies. But the thing that I envied the most about these men was the way they heard from God. It seems like even when they didn’t ask for direction in a matter, God sent an angel to them or even spoke to them Himself. I used to get to a crossroads in … Read entire article »

Zeal Without Knowledge

Have you ever witnessed someone doing something exactly right and yet they still failed at what they were attempting? From out outsider’s point of view they looked like they knew what they were doing but the end result was failure. My message today is about just such a situation. Let’s begin today with a passage from the Old Testament. This week my daily Bible reading took me through Second Chronicles chapter twenty five. I’ve been going through this Book and all of the Kings of Israel and Judah are documented here. Each one had his name recorded along side his devotion to God or else he was listed as doing evil in the sight of the Lord. A little known King named Amaziah was talked about here. Amaziah was listed a little … Read entire article »

One Man’s Liberty-Another’s Offense

The message this week is looking at Christian liberty; what it is and what it is not. Turn with me to 1st Corinthians chapter 8. Paul is writing to a church in a thriving city. Some of the other topics he mentions in this book indicate that it was a carnal church in a very carnal area. I would dare say that it could have easily been written to most churches in America today. It seems that we have become so much like the world that there is often no difference between the people inside the doors as outside except for the name on the lapel.           For example, divorce is about the same rate between church members as non members today. The language people use is the same on … Read entire article »

Half-Hearted and Double Minded

No man ever successfully accomplished anything if he was not fully dedicated to doing it. Now, there are those who are incredibly gifted at things that seem to breeze through life without even trying. But, if they had really tried they would have accomplished so much more. I am basing this truth from the Bible but my own life also bears witness to it. Not really trying to do something will end up in failure. We really all know that to succeed at something we must be totally dedicated. The problem is that we somewhat succeed and become content with a less than perfect outcome. Some people teach that we should try a little and then be happy with whatever results we get. Does this really sound like the path that … Read entire article »

The Nature of God

We live in an amazing time of world history. Science and Technology have discovered things that man never knew for thousands of years. It seems that with all of the discoveries man would be drawn closer to God. But, the opposite seems to be happening; man is making science and nature out to be a god instead. God has given us many clues in His word to science and nature that, if man had been wise enough to listen, would have proven to be true long before someone “discovered” it. As an example, the Bible lists the world as being round even though some ancient scientists believed it to be flat (Is 40:22). God told us that each person’s blood was where the life was (Lev 17:11) but as late as … Read entire article »

Building the Whole Body

We’ve have had plenty of rain recently and it is a completely different spring than last year. Our garden is wet and coming up nicely but the grass has gotten thicker, too.. God’s bounty has begun to give us fresh fruit and vegetables. He is always faithful! We have gone through changes in our diets over the years and continue to try and improve what we eat. Our goal is to grow everything we need. Some asked if we are self-sufficient. We always tell them that we are God-sufficient.           There is a great deal of emphasis on health these days. It’s kind of funny when you listen to the world explain how man is evolving and getting better. And yet, men’s lives aren’t getting significantly longer. Man’s life span … Read entire article »

For Such a Time

There are many concepts alive in the Bible that aren’t spelled out as such. The word Trinity, for example isn’t there but we recognize the Trinity of God existing by the fact that Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit were all at the same place at the same time (Matt 3:17). Providence is another concept that exists even though you won’t see that word written out. Providence is defined as God’s intervention in the world. It is His hand at work even though it may not be immediately recognized as such. One passage that alludes to Divine Providence is Romans 8:26-29. Paul reveals to us that the Holy Spirit makes intercession, or stands in our behalf before God. Verse twenty-eight says that all things in our lives work for our good … Read entire article »

Your Next Battle

We don’t often like to think about battles in our lives. The battles we’ve fought are sometimes forgotten. The ones ahead of us aren’t something we want to think about either. Most of us, if we’re honest, would rather pretend we don’t have another one coming. But, there will be battles ahead for us until the day we leave this planet. A lot of Christians don’t like to consider themselves as soldiers and yet the Bible refers to warfare, our enemy, battles, overcoming and heavenly armor. We become like an ostrich with its head in the sand when we ignore this. God had a reason for recording so many military terms in His Word. That reason is to prepare us for fighting. Every good soldier dedicates himself to training and learning … Read entire article »
