The Very Best Apple Pie Filling

Apple Pie FIlling

4 – 4 1/2 cups white sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
1 cup cornstarch
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
pinch of cloves (to taste or preference)
1 teaspoon salt
10 cups water
3 tablespoons lemon juice

in a large pan, mix sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
Add salt and water and mix well. Bring to a boil and cook until
thick and bubbly (doesn’t take long). Remove from heat and add lemon

Fill jars with apples and pour in hot syrup, and gently remove air bubbles with a
knife. Leave an inch of headspace. Put lids on and process in a water bath canner for 20 minutes.

This usually makes enough to fill 7 quart jars which are packed with apple slices/chunks.  Can’t guarantee it because everyone packs their jars differently.

    I just made this last weekend, and other than the apples separating and rising to the top it turned out great.
