I want to tell you about some incidents that occurred this week. Well, these past two weeks, actually, I had all sorts of technologies that failed me. I have a company Blackberry that went absolutely bizerk. It began by losing all my contacts in my address book (500 of them). I reset it and reloaded. Then a few days later it happened again. I reset it and only half of them came up. I began to try other type re-settings and called our Help Desk. They restarted my account in the server and when it was put back not only did it not have my contacts but I could no longer get email. The eventual solution was to completely wipe it clean of all software and reload all the basic operating system.

Besides my Blackberry I came home the other night to hear a call for help in the kitchen. It seems that the electric oven had gone out of control. It gave some type of error code and Sarah commented that the element was glowing red hot. I shut it off but the element never went off. I had to turn off the circuit breaker to make it cool down.

Just now, as I was writing this document, my computer got an overflow error and closed my document. I started it again and it immediately closed down. I had to restart what I was writing from the beginning.

There is an old phrase that when it rains it pours. I don’t believe that things happen by chance. If you ever see a chain of events that all seem connected you need to stop and use discernment. God promised His children that He would send the Holy Spirit to direct and guide. If we pause our lives and seek Him we will surely find an answer. All of these incidents made me wonder just what was going on. I have been doing a lot of praying about the problems in our world. It seems that end-time signs are all around us and yet many people are completely oblivious to them.

The number of earth-quakes happening in the world has gone up exponentially since 1960. You can do a simple search and find even non-Christians scientists who state that fact. There have been two just this week that made the news at the time of this message.

The end times are going to be set for a one-world government. Did you notice that when President Obama went around running for office he made a trip overseas? Even now he seems to be making decisions that will push our economy to fail and in doing so it can open the door for our society to be completely rebuilt from scratch. Our Constitution will have to be out of the way for a one-world government to be created. Think about it…

As all of my technological woes occurred this week I began to think about what would happen if the system of society failed. That lead me to imagine what could happen in order for all of the events in Revelation to take place. When you read this awesome letter it opens your mind up to the fact that God is in control and has a plan from beginning the end. He ultimately wants His people home. His grace is extended to all mankind and any who call on the name of Jesus will be saved.

As it often does, there was a passage of scripture that came into my spirit that took my thoughts to the answer of my ponderings. That passage was out of Matthew chapter twenty-five. Here is the parable of the ten virgins who went to be part of the wedding ceremony. There were five wise and five foolish. The wise took extra oil for their lamps but the foolish didn’t bring any.

We are somewhat removed from a world where we have to use oil lamps, aren’t we? We have them throughout our home and occasionally light them up. In the event of a storm we have them ready. These lamps are useless without fuel. They are simply ornaments for the shelf. Lamps can be decorative and older ones can even have great value as antiques. But no oil lamp is useful without the oil.

The parable states that while the Bridegroom tarried they all fell asleep. Atmidnightthere was a cry that He was on the way. The foolish virgins had lamps that were gone out and had no extra provisions. They began to try and get oil from the others. The wise virgins had the right logic-if the oil was shared there wouldn’t be enough for anyone. As the foolish women went in search of oil (atmidnight) the Bridegroom arrived. When they returned they found a locked door and a wedding taking place.

Now, what do you suppose was the connection between this passage and what happened in my life this week? You may have noticed that the title of this message is “ready”. Years ago I was in a group known as Royal Rangers. They were basically Christian Boy-Scouts and wore similar uniforms. As a leader we took boys through programs that allowed merit badges and we went on many camping trips. This group had pledges and a motto, which was “Ready”. Just like the Boy-Scouts motto of “Be Prepared” we taught boys to be ready for anything that came up in their lives.

That preparation theme could be one that the foolish virgins would have benefited from. All of us need to prepare for things that are obvious. The problem seems to be when we underestimate the situation. Look again at the parable. Notice that in verse five it says that the Bridegroom tarried. Think about that for a moment. These women took lamps and did not take extra oil. They only took what was already in the lamps. It seems clear that none of these women knew when the Bridegroom would appear but half of them expected Him to not be late. In other words, they predicted that He would be there soon and didn’t prepare to wait as long as it might take.

Going back to my technology failures-we have a wood cook stove that is working fine in place of an electric range. Angie was cooking supper on it when I got home. My Blackberry was missed but I still worked over the past two weeks without it. The document that crashed earlier this evening was simply redone. We can adjust to certain things breaking. There is a winter storm that came through the north this week and dumped snow on many of our Northern friends. Knowing that it was coming they went out and bought snow-shovels, extra food, etc. They prepared for what they knew to be inevitable.

Let me tell you of something else that is inevitable. Jesus is coming again-and soon. He promised that He would appear in the Eastern sky and redeem His followers. All of the prophecies are coming clear about His soon arrival and yet, many doubt that He will come at all. They don’t plan for the inevitable and some even scoff at what is taking place right before their eyes.

There is one more thing that is inevitable. You and I will someday pass from this world. We will die, either from natural causes or an accident. Whether we live to see Jesus return or die first we will need to be ready. Just as the snow storm came and my technological marvels stopped working there had to be preparation.

First of all, are you prepared to be ready should themidnightcry go out? Have you set your pace for the long race that is probably ahead? Sometimes runners underestimate the length of the race and don’t set a proper pace. They burn out before the finish line. I have seen people who came to the knowledge of Christ but did not count the cost and gave up. We must be ready – whatever it takes.

Second-have you put your trust in things of this world? Just as my things failed me yours will too. Right now there is a major recall fromToyotaon an accelerator problem. Some of the finest engineers in the world made a mistake. These men and women designed a high quality vehicle that failed to do what they wanted. Make a note that people are fallible.

Last, I am wondering if you plan on borrowing from someone else when things fail. When Jesus comes back and you face Him will you tell Him about the Godliness of your parents? Perhaps you will talk about the church that you belong to. This is the foolish virgins who wanted to borrow. It must be your relationship with God-not someone else’s.

When your life falls apart will you try to lean on others or can you stand in Christ alone? Many times I have observed people who fell apart when friends forsook them. Their Christianity was shallow because it was built on other people. When someone they admired failed they gave up their walk.

We cannot borrow oil from others. It must be ours. There is only one source of this oil and that is the Holy Spirit. You need to ask of Him today and He will fill your vessel!

There is one last thing that I want to point out. If we know that these are the last days and also know that societies have fallen apart all throughout man’s history why don’t we prepare for disaster better? We live as if there will always be food at the store. We sit and do nothing even though we know that the economy is on the brink of collapse. Let me encourage you to begin preparing today. Don’t let your family down; be ready. Even the government suggests that every family have a supply of food for emergencies.

Wouldn’t it just be wisdom to purchase two cans of food extra each time you buy groceries and store it? You can put a date on the can and then before it expires either use it or take it to a food bank for hungry people. We all need to be better prepared spiritually and physically. As the motto suggests we must be ready for anything. Please pray this week and ask God to reveal those areas of your life that need work.

Prayer-Father, I pray for each person who reads this message this week. Lord, we have often tried to borrow from someone else the things that we should have received on our own. Please help us to be ready when Your Son comes back for His Bride. If there are areas that we need to get ready in physically I pray that You would help us to see them.

In Jesus’ Name–Amen

Paul your post is so timely for us. Our household has had a similar theme this week, though w/out our electronics going crazy. Well, no crazier than usual.
Our pastor is on his 4th sermon on the book of Jude, the overall theme being apostasy. Our favorite internet teacher (plain like yourselves) did a GREAT radio show on Antichrist, tonight’s (Wed., 22 is sceduled to be on Daniel),the devotional we read is on Revelation & March 16th president Obama signed the National Defense Resources Preparedness executive order “granting the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Labor, the Department of Defense and other agencies complete control of all US resources, including the ability to seize, confiscate or re-delegate resources, materials, services, and facilities as deemed necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense”
There does seem to be something big on the horizon & I pray He finds us all faithful.

Your posts are always so encouraging and sometimes although pointed, very accurate. I’ve been doing “food storage” for a couple years now. I buy in bulk the staples and I’ve found in doing so, my overall grocery bills have kept steady and at certain times even gone down. A Garden is now a must, and I’ll be planting that in a week or so. I do alot of container gardening and found that it’s easy and does so much for our overall diet. Yes, Jesus is coming back. In the meantime, we should take the example of the ant seriously and do what we can to store up for our families, what may not be available in the future. Even a storm can keep one from going to the store, we’ve had that happen more than once, so being ready is not just a long range goal, but something we should be working on daily “just in case”

Thanks Karoline-God gave us wisdom to use if we just will use it. I heard a quote this week that we are the first generation in the history of man where everyone didn’t grow at least some of their own food. There are many reasons to continue growing our food. Food in the grocery store travels an average of 1500 miles to get to you. Growing your own food is tax-free income. When you grow it you know what is in it. And all your comments are true-many things can stop supplies from coming-storms, trucker strikes, shortages, panic buying, price hikes. It just makes sense to prepare. May the Lord Bless you and your family!
