Growing Sweet Potatoes

Growing Sweet Potatoes

One of our favorite meals is a nice baked sweet potato!!!  The flavor is so rich and you can’t beat them for healthy eating.  I wanted to share with you how we grow sweet potatoes.  They take approximately 100 to 110 days from planting to harvest so they need a long growing season.  We plant ours in early May so the soil is warm and this allows for us to harvest just before frost here … Read entire article »

What Are You Hungry For?

Welcome to the message of the week from Shepherd’s Hill. This week I am thinking about the desires and passions that we all have. All of us have something that motivates us or drives us to make certain decisions in life. I pondered on the incidents that inspire us and have wondered what it takes to get people pointed in the right direction. To begin with let’s look at a familiar scripture in Proverbs.                Proverbs 22:6 says to train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. This passage has been used many times in reference to raising children in the ways of God and is usually not thought of otherwise. That’s very sad because I believe … Read entire article »

Sponges and Stones

This week we are looking at an interesting topic mentioned in the Bible. I want to look at the Lord’s blueprint for His church. For this message today I want you to do something different. If you have a sponge in your kitchen or bathroom go get it. Also, go outside and find the largest rock that you can bring in. Have them ready for comparison           In 1st Peter chapter two we can find references of the building blocks that God will use in the Body of Christ. Peter begins this chapter by speaking of first steps. He points his letter to babes in Christ and says to lay aside the old life (malice, guile, hypocrisies, envies and evil speaking) and to desire the sincere milk of the Word. … Read entire article »

Living the Hyphen

This week we are going to study a passage from Exodus chapters two and three. There are a lot of Christians who reach a place in their spiritual walk and are uncertain why they are there. If that is you then I hope this speaks to your heart today. Isn’t it amazing how a person’s life can be condensed so briefly? Samson judged Israel for twenty years and yet we only see a few stories about him (most of them bad). He was listed in the Hall of Faith (Hebrews 11) so there must have been a lot of good that he did that was not recorded. If you walk through a cemetery you will see tombstones with a name and two dates. There is nothing to tell you if the … Read entire article »

What Must I Do?

There are many people who claim that they are Christians today. In the United Statesalone 76% of the population declare themselves to be so. This is on a decline from recent years and is evident today as our society is in serious trouble. Fifty years ago no one ever heard of a school shooting. The biggest trouble anyone had from a student at that time was chewing gum or talking out of turn. I distinctly remember my friend showing me his new pocket-knife in the fifth grade. The teacher saw it and said it was against school policy to have a knife. She asked for all of us who had knives to stand up. I stood up along side most every boy in class. The teacher had us all … Read entire article »
