Life’s Worklist

The other day my wife and I sat down together and wrote out a list of things we want to finish around our place. After about an hour, we had compiled a list that will last us until next year. Some of the items on that list were big things like building a rabbit shed and others small things like the lights in our house that I need install. Today, thinking on that list I realized something, for some crazy reason the list was the exactly the same size as the one we made over a year ago. Even as time has passed and our tasks were slowly finished, more projects were added. As big things were accomplished and we took a break, our mind would get working on the next big endeavour. I know that when we have finished this new list and we plan  to take a break, we will once again have an entire list to continue to work on.

Our walk with Christ should be the same way. We should always be striving to improve some part of our Christian walk. Before Erin and I were first married, my to-do list was to fix up our place so it was good to live in. However, once that was finished and we were married, I moved on to deeper things. We tore down the bathroom in our bedroom to give us more space. Then we tore down the old furnace wall, then the other bathroom was renovated. Next we may re-paint everything, who knows. Likewise we should do in our spiritual walk. We should always be looking for ways to get even closer to God and we should never be content in our Christian walk. Can you memorize a few verses from the Bible? Good, now memorize a chapter. So you spend thirty minutes studying your bible? Awesome, now study an hour. If we ever get content with our Christian walk we will eventually become lazy. Laziness will let the grass grow too high and when you cut it you may get more than you bargained for in the form of a yellow jacket nest.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Galatians 6:9

Excellent reminder and challenge Andy! Thanks for reminding me that my “To Do” list for the Lord should be more important that my own “To Do” list. Love you!
