August 8, 2011

I can’t believe it!! It’s really coming!! Boy, I feel different!! Okay, I’ll let you in on the secret! I will be 20-years-old in 18 days!!! Wow, what a big number. I still see myself at nine, barefoot, running up-hill through the woods, carrying a sword (stick) and riding a horse (also a stick), waving a banner I just made out of some (hopefully) unwanted fabric of my mother’s, screaming at the top of my lungs “Chaaaaaaarge!!!!”! Never noticing the thorns, lizards, and snakes I ran over. But, here I am. Almost twenty. Working at a vet’s office from 8:00 to 5:30. Paying bills I didn’t have till I started getting a paycheck. Finding out what a bad interest rate is and how it just gets worse. Understanding why we need to make sure we don’t run out of gas in the middle of nowhere. Learning about oil change, antifreeze leaks, freon.

You know, my mom, dad, and even my sisters, as they reached the world of adulthood, told me “enjoy your time as a kid” and “don’t rush it.” Boy, I had no idea. To be honest I miss those days of being a cowgirl, or knight, or Robin Hood, but the life I have as an adult is just as incredible! For example: I can drive all the way to Gadsden (1.5hrs one way) in my very own truck, I can read books with language like- thither and antidisestablishmentarianism. I can cook a gourmet meal for my family with food I bought from the store with my own money and got there with my own truck, on my way home from my awesome job at a veterinary clinic! Okay, I’ll sum up… As much as I miss the carefree (bill-free, I mean) days as a kid, I would never trade them for the freedom and privilege of being a “grown-up” 🙂
