Secret Agent Christians

I was in a Bible study with my family the other night, when I said something that made them all laugh. We had been discussing the fact that
scripture clearly states that Christians will be persecuted. In Matthew 5  the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount begin. Jesus is giving the statements that clearly define the correct attitudes of the born again.  I have always taught that they were much like a “job description” of
today. In other words, this is what the Saints of God have that distinguishes them from the world.
It was then that I spoke of the “undercover agent” Christians; those that want to be included with the number on judgment day, but really
don’t want to live any differently than the rest of the world. I remembered many who had asked us what we believed or sometimes found out
that we were Christians and then, in a whispering tone, said “I’m a Christian, too”.
I have been around men and women for many years and one day hear them say that they were Christians. Now, I’m no one’s judge, but the
Lord did say that we’d know them by their fruits (Matt 7). The folks that I am talking about are the ones that you’d never think were
Christians in a million years. I heard one preacher teaching that there was nothing that you could do that would keep you from going to heaven once you’d gone down the aisle. He stated, “You can deny Him, but He’ll never deny you”. This is a very popular pastor that is on most Christian radio stations around the country.
I’m not going to give his name. The last time that I mentioned a pastor teaching erroneous doctrine, we received mail from some people
who obviously thought their man could not make mistakes. Well, this gentleman made his statement against Matthew 10:33. Sometimes people get so caught up in teaching their subject that they take it beyond what the scripture allows.
There is a modern misconception that under the stress of persecution, Jesus is so merciful, that all we must do is deny him and
ask for forgiveness later. Now, let me ask you this. You’ve probably heard of the Martyrs down through history. Hopefully, every Christian has read Foxe’s Book of Martyrs. Those precious saints refused to deny our Lord in spite of their own deaths or even their family members being tortured. They refused to give in. We now, somehow, think that Jesus wouldn’t ask us to suffer. We say, “He’ll understand”. My question to you is this; what did the people think that were in the newly formed Body of Christ?  I remind you that these men and women who had personally listened to Christ teach were not under the impression of any other doctrine. They had Paul and Peter to answer the hard questions. Now I ask you, what do you think they thought on the matter?

My first Pastor always said that any person that Christ ever called, he called publicly. Everything that sets us apart from the world is something public. We make a public confession of faith. We are baptized publicly. God has not called any secret agents into the Kingdom! He wants all to be Ambassadors! We are the city on a hill and the light without a basket covering it. Don’t hide my brothers. Confess!

But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father          which is in heaven. Matt 10:33

Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
